Theory of the Day: Is pain real? I place forward the idea that pain is not real. Pain is merely a conditioned response which society has tought us. I.E. When I was young, my brother was just a baby. He fell off the bed one day and when he hit the ground he just started to laugh. Then my parents came rushing in seriously freaked out. Suddenly, my brother started wailing and crying over how much it hurt. However, until my parents had produced this reaction, my brother apparently felt no pain whatsoever. So is pain real or is it simply a conditioned response to certain stimuli which society and/or our parents have led us to believe in?
